Toilet and drain clogs are common occurrences that are easy to resolve.
If your toilet clogs, you can use a plunger to attempt to push anything stuck in the pipes through the system. Simply push the plunger over the drainage hole and vigorously move it up and down. Repeat as necessary until the toilet begins to drain again.
Turn off water fixture and turn off water at supply line and contact Rent Smart immediately.
Outlets - Check GFCI outlets, normally located in the kitchen and bathroom. They are the outlets with the test/reset button on them. If an outlet does not have power press the reset button on the outlet, if this does not solve the problem, go to the breaker box and flip each breaker completely off and then on. Sometimes a breaker will look like it in not tripped, but actually it is, this is why it is important to flip each breaker completely off and then on. Check outlets to see if this resolved the problem.
Lighting - Check to make sure bulb is not burnt out. Check GFCI outlets, then proceed to breaker box and flip each breaker completely off and then on again.
General electrical failure - Check and see if other buildings or apartments in your vicinity have power. Are their lights on?
Hot water shortage - Check to see if the breaker in the breaker box for the hot water heater is tripped. This breaker is normally a double throw breaker, meaning that two breakers are "tied" together as one. If your water heater is gas, and you suspect the pilot has blown out, call NWE to have them relight the pilot.
Is your air conditioning or heating system giving you problems? The central thermostat in your home is the best tool for troubleshooting the issue. Please check that all of the settings on your central thermostat are accurate before making a repair request.
Shut thermostat to lowest temperature setting and wait 5 minutes, then turn thermostat up to desired temperature...wait five minutes and see if heat has resumed.
Water leaks - Shut off water valve located closet to source of leak. Kitchen and bathroom faucet water valves are generally located in the cabinet below the sink towards the back of the wall. Toilet water valves are generally located at the base of the toilet towards the rear. Most main water valve shut offs are located in and around the hot water heater.
